One Year, Taking Root

“Mere change is not growth. Growth is the synthesis of change and continuity,

and where there is no continuity there is no growth.”

C.S. Lewis

As I had shared in a recent social post, this is gonna be an emotional one… A year ago today, we opened the doors to our brick and mortar shop in Snohomish, Washington. We went from being online for many years, having booths in other shops, selling at shows, to then our amazing memorable barn markets, and landed in our longtime dream of opening a full time storefront.

This year has been a wild ride for us and for many. At times, feeling like we are holding on for dear life, and other times carried so gracefully, living our dream in real life. Taking on being a small business owner in any form is hard work alone, opening up and maintaining a brick and mortar is no easy feat.

I cannot begin to express my gratitude for each and every individual who has shown up for us this year. You have literally supported our family, our staff, and our dream, which is still growing.

This year has grown me in ways I did not know I needed growing. That process has involved much pruning. I have learned so much, more specifically that I do not need to do it all, at all times…that each season has its own beauty even if it is hard to see in the midst of rough ones, and that you may find true lasting friendship in unexpected places. Most importantly, to not give up.

There are so many moments from this year that will forever be remembered, because of the kindness and the thoughtfulness of others. I have been blessed by our community in just the right moments when I needed it most.

Being a shop owner and a mom can be a bit of a juggle. Our team has been such a huge support for me as I am unable to do everything on my own. The reality of being a true small business, is the humility and gratitude placed in the hands of those who come along side us. Maple House would not be what it is without them. If you have come in to visit, you may have met some of our lovely staff and understand how truly special they are.

We are so thankful to put up shop in the most magical little historic town of Snohomish. This year we have welcomed Bethany, owner of shop, “Marie,” to our building. She has curated the most stunning collection of vintage clothing which she offers alongside her original artwork and mid-century finds. Soon, we will also welcome “Snohomish Coffee Co.”, which we have all been champing at the bit for! Needless to say, we are all coffee lovers here.

Our dream is still alive, and growing stronger as we allow these roots to move deeper into the ground in which we have settled upon.

Thank you for continuing to support our little shop. It truly means the world to us. If there is anything I can encourage you with today, it is that your support never goes unnoticed with a small shop. Every purchase, every positive interaction, every complement, exchange of a smile, surprise visit, words that lift us up, each gesture is recognized, remembered, and spurs us on. Thank you so very much for being here. Good things ahead.
